Entrance sculpture in Dornstadt, 2022
A real eye-catcher: In Dornstadt, we printed an architecturally sophisticated entrance sculpture for a large-scale new building project, which is used as a parcel collection station.
An architecturally sophisticated entrance sculpture was printed in Dornstadt, Swabia. It not only represents a highlight of the "Arkadien Ulm-Dornstadt" residential development, but also serves as a parcel center for more than 200 apartments and houses. The sculpture was realized in collaboration with the STRENGER Group and Holcim Germany. Architecturally challenging elements such as overhangs and complex geometric shapes were printed.

IMPRESSIONS OF THE PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION
This creates a strong first impression
Insights into the planning process
The entrance sculpture features unprecedented shapes and overhangs of 10° —as well as drops that take this to the next level. This, of course, requires comprehensive planning and testing.
Ready for implementation
The entrance sculpture is printed on site using the COBOD BOD2 and measures 11 meters long, 5 meters wide and 3.5 meters high.

The result is impressive
The unique architecture of the entrance sculpture provides a glimpse into the design freedom effortlessly enabled by 3D printing. Using any other construction method, the sculpture would not have been economically feasible.
Aesthetics meets function
Since its opening, the entrance sculpture has been used as a parcel distribution center for the 200 adjacent apartments of Arkadien Dornstadt.

Requirements and solutions
Requirements
The realization of the entrance sculpture for the residential project in Dornstadt presented us with a few minor challenges, primarily due to the unique architecture. Building details such as the lintels and the large overhangs had never been implemented on this scale before.
Solutions
Various adjustments to the 3D model and a mockup test in our hall gave us the opportunity to test and confirm the feasibility – even before we brought the printer to the construction site. This way, the printing team knew exactly which details to pay attention to at all times during implementation, including how the lintels needed to be supported to ensure the perfect print result. In addition, parts of the sculpture were printed on-site as prefabricated parts and, after curing, were added to the rest of the structure.
Customer benefit
The entrance sculpture demonstrates the capabilities of 3D printing and how creative architecture can be realized with this new construction method. It not only meets aesthetic standards, but also contributes to improving logistics and the residents' quality of life through its function as a parcel distribution center. Furthermore, the sculpture has added a real eye-catcher to the residential project.
